4 Oct., 2008 - Tropical Storm Higos weakened into a tropical depression. More than 20 millimetres of rainfall were recorded over Hong Kong Island and parts of the New Territories.

Typhoon Hagupit No. 8 Signal Issued
Stock Photo ID: hkdigit-20080923-171823HONG KONG : 23 Sept., 2008 - The Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Number 8 storm signal as Typhoon Hagupit (颱風 黑格比) bears down on Hong Kong. This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the northeast quarter. At 7 P.M., Typhoon Hagupit was centred about 200 kilometres south of Hong Kong (near 20.5 degrees north 114.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour heading towards the western coast of Guangdong. Hagupit's outer rainbands are already affecting Hong Kong. Gale force winds are generally blowing over offshore waters and on high ground. Owing to the combined effect of Hagupit and high tide, flooding is expected overnight in low lying areas including Sheung Wan. According to Hagupit's present track, it is expected that the no.8 gale or storm signal will remain in force overnight.

Typhoon Hagupit No. 3 Signal Issued

Typhoon Hagupit ((颱風 黑格比) was estimated to be about 240 kilometres south-southeast of Hong Kong (near 20.4 degrees north 115.3 degrees east) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour edging closer to the south China coast. According to Hagupit's present track, the observatory will consider issuing the no.8 gale before 6 pm. this evening. Gales are already affecting high ground in Hong Kong.

Typhoon Nuri No. 9 Signal Issued

This means that winds are expected to increase significantly as Nuri moves closer to Hong Kong.
At 2 p.m., Typhoon Nuri was centred about 40 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong Observatory (near 22.1 degrees north 114.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour towards Hong Kong.

At 8 a.m., Typhoon Nuri was centred about 160 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong (near 21.4 degrees north 115.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour towards the Pearl River Estuary.
According to the present forecast track, Nuri will be rather close to Hong Kong this afternoon and tonight with a chance of direct hit. The Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 will be in force for most of the day.

Typhoon Fengshen

flooding. Trash cans, trees, street signs, scaffoldings, and hung-up advertisments collapsed. The Hong Kong Observatory issued the No. 8 Gale or Storm signal at 10:45 p.m. on June 24, 2008. As it has gradually weakened while making landfall, the maximum winds were at about 86 km/h. Fengshen has also caused lanslides and thunderstorms. The wind has brought severe damage and is strongly wrecking the city. The Strong Wind Signal No.3 was hoisted at 11:15 a.m., June 25, 2008.
