Typhoon Nuri No. 8 Signal Issued

HONG KONG : 22 Aug., 2008 - The No. 8 Northwest Gale or Storm Signal was issued at 7:40 a.m. This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the northwest quarter.
At 8 a.m., Typhoon Nuri was centred about 160 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong (near 21.4 degrees north 115.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour towards the Pearl River Estuary.
According to the present forecast track, Nuri will be rather close to Hong Kong this afternoon and tonight with a chance of direct hit. The Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 will be in force for most of the day.
