Hong Kong Observatory has issued a frost warning. The temperatures dropped to eight degrees Celsius in the urban areas and several degrees lower in the New Territories.

Sponsored by the Mission Hills Group, Mission Hills Golf Club and Hsin Chong Construction Group, and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau, the Lunar New Year fireworks display will light up the sky over Victoria Harbour at 8pm on Friday (February 8).

A total of 40,000 firing shells will be discharged in the display from four barges in a 23-minute extravaganza consisting of 10 scenes. The sponsorship amount is about $7 million.

To celebrate the Chinese Year of Ox, the fireworks display will be held on January 27, 2009 (Tuesday). The show begins at 8:00 pm.

Cirrocumulus clouds was seen over Tai Mo Shan. The above photo was taken at 06:23 a.m. on 30 October 2008.

Tai Mo Shan (大帽山) literally meaning "Big Hat Mountain" has the highest peak in Hong Kong, with an altitude of 958 m. It is located approximately at the geographical centre of the New Territories.

Cirrocumulus clouds (卷積雲) are high-altitude cloud, usually occurring at 16,000-40,000 feet. Like other cumulus clouds, cirrocumulus clouds signify convection. Unlike other cirrus clouds, cirrocumulus include liquid water droplets, although these are in a supercooled state. Ice crystals are also present, and typically, the ice crystals cause the supercooled water drops in the cloud to rapidly freeze, transforming the cirrocumulus into cirrostratus. This process can also produce precipitation in the form of a virga consisting of ice or snow. Thus cirrocumulus clouds are usually short-lived.

The blue-chip Hang Seng Index has trimmed its losses to close down 4.8 percent. The Hang Seng Index shed 767 points to 15,230.

The Hang Seng Index (abbreviated: HSI, 恒生指數) is a freefloat-adjusted market capitalization-weighted stock market index in Hong Kong. It is used to record and monitor daily changes of the largest companies of the Hong Kong stock market and is the main indicator of the overall market performance in Hong Kong. These 45 companies represent about 67% of capitalization of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

U-right International Liquidation

HONG KONG - 9 Oct., 2008 - Hong Kong Listed Company U-Right International (佑威服裝) could not meet written demands for repayment of HK$850 million in loans from banks and other financial institutions. It was applied for liquidation.

The company has 95 stores in Hong Kong and another 516 on the mainland. However, this might be the reason of its collapse. Deloitte pointed out that U-Right invested too much on the mainland, causing it to have run out of cash.

U-Right, which was listed on Hong Kong's main board in 2000, saw its share price plummet almost 70 percent over the past month and trading in its shares was suspended on 17 Sept., 2008 when the share price was recorded at 1.4 HK cents apiece.

U-Right is the third listed retailer in Hong Kong to collapse amid the global financial turmoil.

Recently, my friend bought me the Pentax Imagesensor Cleaning Kit O-ICK1 from Yodobashi, Japan. The package include a cleaning stick which have a polyurethane rubber stamp and cleaning sheet to remove dust and oils from the stamp between use.

HONG KONG : 23 Sept., 2008 - The Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Number 8 storm signal as Typhoon Hagupit (颱風黑格比) bears down on Hong Kong. This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the northeast quarter. At 7 P.M., Typhoon Hagupit was centred about 200 kilometres south of Hong Kong (near 20.5 degrees north 114.5 degrees east) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour heading towards the western coast of Guangdong. Hagupit's outer rainbands are already affecting Hong Kong. Gale force winds are generally blowing over offshore waters and on high ground. Owing to the combined effect of Hagupit and high tide, flooding is expected overnight in low lying areas including Sheung Wan. According to Hagupit's present track, it is expected that the no.8 gale or storm signal will remain in force overnight.

Typhoon Hagupit ((颱風黑格比) was estimated to be about 240 kilometres south-southeast of Hong Kong (near 20.4 degrees north 115.3 degrees east) and is forecast to move west or west-northwest at about 28 kilometres per hour edging closer to the south China coast. According to Hagupit's present track, the observatory will consider issuing the no.8 gale before 6 pm. this evening. Gales are already affecting high ground in Hong Kong.

HONG KONG : 22 Aug., 2008 - The No. 8 Northwest Gale or Storm Signal was issued at 7:40 a.m. This means that winds with mean speeds of 63 kilometres per hour or more are expected from the northwest quarter.

At 8 a.m., Typhoon Nuri was centred about 160 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong (near 21.4 degrees north 115.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move northwest or west-northwest at about 14 kilometres per hour towards the Pearl River Estuary.

14 August, 2008 - The Hong Kong men's table tennis team lost 3-0 to Japan this afternoon in their final group D game and it means they can no longer win a gold or a silver medal in Beijing.

The opening two singles matches were lost 3-1, while match 3, the doubles, ended in a 3-2 victory for the Japanese. Hong Kong's team of Ko Lai-chak (高禮澤) and Li Ching (李靜) squandered 6 match points in that contest.

They won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics.

The rainstorm warning signals (暴雨警告訊號) are a set of signals used in Hong Kong to alert the public about the occurrence of heavy rain which is likely to bring about major disruptions such as traffic congestion and floods. They also ensure a state of readiness within the essential services to deal with emergencies.

Hong Kong Observatory is responsible for launching these signals and the signals are broadcast over radio and television.

Amber Rainstorm Signal means:

Heavy rain has fallen or is expected to fall generally over Hong Kong, exceeding 30 millimetres in an hour, and is likely to continue.

The AMBER signal gives alert about potential heavy rain that may develop into RED or BLACK signal situations. There will be flooding in some low-lying areas and poorly drained areas.

How to get there : Take the MTR to Central and make your way to the J2 exit of the Central MTR station. Turn right, through Chater Garden, cross Queen's Road Central and make your way up Garden Road. You will pass the Bank of China Tower and Citibank Plaza on your left and St John's Cathedral on your right before arriving at the terminus, which is to your left.

Company Profile : The Peak Tram is one of the world's oldest and most famous funicular railways. Opened in May 1888, it has made daily journeys connecting Hong Kong's Central business district to The Peak ever since. The double reversible funicular railway, as it is technically known, rises from 28m to 396m above sea level along a 1.4 km track with a gradient of between 4 to 27 degrees. Among Hong Kong's most popular tourist attractions, it terminates at the new Peak Tower shopping and entertainment complex - and one of the world's greatest panoramic views – the Sky Terrace.

The 2008 Sichuan earthquake at a magnitude 7.9 Mw, occurred at 14:28:01.42 CST (06:28:01.42 UTC) on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan province of China. In China, it was named the Wenchuan earthquake (汶川大地震), after the earthquake's epicenter in Wenchuan County in Sichuan province. The epicenter was 80 kilometres (50 mi) west-northwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, with a depth of 19 kilometres (12 mi).The earthquake was felt as far away as Beijing (1,500 km away) and Shanghai (1,700 km away), where office buildings swayed with the tremor.

Official figures (as of May 18, 14:00 CST) state that 32,476 are confirmed dead, including 31,978 in Sichuan province, and 220,109 injured.The Chinese government warned that the death toll could soar to 50,000. Tens of thousands are missing, approximately 14,000 of them buried, and eight provinces were affected.It was the deadliest and strongest earthquake to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which killed over 240,000 people.

Hong Kong: To celebrate the new year of 2008, on 31 December 2007, A Symphony of Lights added with pyrotechnic fireworks on the rooftop of participating buildings of both sides of the habour on the new year's eve of 2007. This special show begins at 23:43. At the last 20 seconds before entering the year of 2008 (23:59:40), Two International Finance Centre will start to fire pyrotechnic fireworks from the outer walls which face to the Victoria Harbour. At the moment of year 2008 comes (24:00:00), 16 of the participating buildings of both sides of the habour will also have themed pyrotechnic show with Two International Finance Centre for 2 minutes to celebrate the new year arrives.

O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!

Although we miss the 35 meters height Dazzling Christmas Tree (千色聖誕樹) last year, there is still have a 4-storey tall Christmas tree at Statue Square, Central, as a backdrop of a large stage. Nearby, floats a nativity scene of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus in the fountain and a 15-foot cross to hang your prayer requests.

On Friday nights, Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, entertainers, artistes, carolers and groups through Hong Kong will be celebrating this special season until 1 Jan. On 24 & 31 Dec, there will be 12-hour non-stop singing and performances that will be memorable and special countdown activities.

Face Changing Master Mr. Wai Shui-kwan (韋瑞群) started his Chinese Opera, Martial Arts, Acrobatics, and Traditional Chinese Magic at age 12. In 1993 he went to Sichuan Province to study its famous Face Changing Opera. He has transformed the old technique to the new and passed it on to his favourite student Miss. Anna Chau Ah Mui. They often perform together on numerous occasions. Their high record of 'face changes' is 55 pieces within a performance. Recently Master Wai also invented a costume-changing technique, which earned him and Miss. Chau the name of "Hong Kong's National Treasure".
